Stablecoin Payment Price Update — September 21–27, 2026
This is the weekly price edition of Stablecoin Payment Market Intelligence for September 21–27, 2026 — a week in which the energy floor rose while TRX fell: the cheapest single-order 1-hour quote moved from 20 SUN to 23 SUN (+15%) even as TRX lost 2.7% to close at $0.3334, and Binance Wallet began letting users pay TRON network fees in USDT without holding any TRX.
Every figure carries a source and an as-of date. USD equivalents this week are recomputed from SUN prices at the September 27 TRX close of $0.3334: 65,000 energy x SUN price / 1,000,000 = TRX cost. Two hygiene notes apply again this week — published USD columns on live price tables still imply a TRX price near $0.10, and we recompute every USD cell rather than copy them.
1. Energy Rental Prices
| Provider / plan | Unit price (SUN) | 65k energy cost | USD equiv. (TRX $0.3334) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest 1h rental (TronBid) | 23 SUN | 1.50 TRX | ~$0.50 |
| Stronara live rate (1h) | 27.6 SUN | 1.80 TRX | ~$0.60 |
| TronRental (1h) | 30 SUN | 1.95 TRX | ~$0.65 |
| Itrx.io (1h) | 35 SUN | 2.28 TRX | ~$0.76 |
| TronMax (1h) | 37 SUN | 2.41 TRX | ~$0.80 |
| Tronzap (1h) | 38 SUN | 2.47 TRX | ~$0.82 |
| Network burn price | 100 SUN | 6.50 TRX | ~$2.17 |
| Network burn, new-holder recipient (131k) | 100 SUN | 13.10 TRX | ~$4.37 |
The cheapest observed single-order quote rose from 20 SUN to 23 SUN — a 15% increase that more than reverses last week's 9% give-back, and the second straight week of two-way movement around the low-20s: 14 SUN two months ago, 22, then 20, now 23. The floor also changed hands, with TronBid taking over from TronRental, whose own 1-hour quote rose from 20 to 30 SUN. Mid-market quotes held in the 35–38 SUN range, and the network burn price remains 100 SUN (TronScan.energy, read September 27–28). TronScan.energy's USD column still shows 1.50 TRX as ~$0.15 — implying a TRX price near $0.10 against an actual close of $0.3334 — which is why every USD figure here is recomputed from the SUN price, never copied.
2. TRX Staking Cost
| Benchmark | Value | As of | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRX price | $0.3334 (close) | Sep 27 | −2.7% w/w; range $0.3323–0.3493 |
| TRX staked | 45.7B | Q2 end | −0.9% q/q; latest available |
| sTRX 6-hour average APY (JustLend) | 4.86% | Sep 24 | up from 4.57% a week earlier |
| Tron Inc. treasury | >715.8M TRX | Sep 24 | two purchases: 144,471 TRX @ $0.3461 and 145,791 TRX @ $0.3430 |
| TRXS ETF net assets | ~$50.4M | Sep 10 | background — no newer figure in circulation; listed on Public Sep 23 |
| Stake to cover one USDT transfer/day | ~65,000 TRX (~$21.7k) | reference | capital lock-up versus rent |
At $0.3334, covering one USDT transfer per day by staking ties up roughly 65,000 TRX — about $21.7k of capital — against $0.50 for a rented transfer at the cheapest quote. The accumulation side of the market kept adding price-insensitive buyers — TRXS listed on the Public brokerage on September 23 and Tron Inc. bought 290,262 TRX across two days at averages of $0.3461 and $0.3430 — yet TRX still fell 2.7% on the week against a bitcoin rally, which is a reminder that structural staking demand and market price move on different clocks. No newer TRXS net-asset figure is in circulation — the last published number remains ~$50.4M — so the flow impact of the new channels remains unmeasurable.
3. Per-Chain USDT Transfer Cost
| Chain | Typical cost per USDT transfer | Note |
|---|---|---|
| TRON (rented energy, cheapest 23 SUN) | ~$0.50 | cheapest 1h quote observed this week |
| TRON (rented energy, typical) | ~$0.76–0.82 | 35–38 SUN 1h quotes |
| TRON (burning TRX, 65k) | ~$2.17 | existing-holder recipient |
| TRON (burning TRX, 131k) | ~$4.37 | new-holder recipient; ~2x |
| Ethereum (ERC-20) | $0.02–$0.8 (measured) | Sep 2026 medians; volatile — older guides cite $1–$10+ |
| Solana | <$0.10 | low-cost rail |
| BNB Chain (BEP-20) | <$0.10 | cheap EVM rail |
TRON's cheapest rented cost moved from ~$0.45 to ~$0.50 this week — the quote rose 15% in SUN terms while the TRX price fell 2.7%, and the USD cost lands where the SUN move puts it. The honest comparison is now overlap-based: typical 1-hour quotes cost $0.76–0.82 and the burn path is $2.17 for an existing USDT holder and $4.37 for a new one, while Ethereum's measured USDT-transfer medians have fallen to $0.02–$0.8 in 2026's low-gas regime (older guide bands still cite $1–$10+). The two rails overlap at the mid-market — the chain competes on acceptance, liquidity, tooling and price stability, not on the absolute floor.
4. Energy Demand & Supply
Demand indicators rose and the floor rose with them — the first demand-aligned price move in three weeks. The demand side of the ledger: TRON logged its first weekly transaction count at roughly 100 million, passed 405 million accounts, crossed $30 trillion in cumulative volume, and added a new demand channel in Binance Wallet's USDT-fee promotion. The supply side: no new large rental platform launched inside the window, Tron Inc.'s purchases and TRXS inflows stake into validation rather than list energy for sale, and SunSwap said it will discontinue energy subsidies for its legacy SmartExchangeRouter — a marginal supply cleanup. A 15% floor rise against rising demand indicators is what a tightening market looks like; one week does not make a trend, but the direction this week is the opposite of last week's normalization story.
5. Market Price Changes
- Energy rental: cheapest 1-hour quote 20 SUN → 23 SUN (~$0.45 → ~$0.50 at respective TRX closes); the floor changed hands from TronRental to TronBid; typical quotes steady at 35–38 SUN.
- TRX: $0.3334 at the September 27 close, −2.7% over seven days (range $0.3323–0.3493) — against bitcoin up roughly 5% to ~$84,400 on the year's strongest ETF week.
- Broader market: ETH traded $2,600–2,800 through the week; Hyperliquid printed an all-time high just below $98; NEAR +30% and ONDO +40% led large-cap gainers; Fear and Greed touched 80 ('extreme greed') on September 22 before easing to 71.
- Fees: energy unit price remains 100 SUN; average TRON transaction cost $0.65 in Q2 2026 (Messari, background).
- Gas abstraction: Binance Wallet USDT-fee payment went live September 23 as a limited-spot promotion to December 22 — a change in who pays, not in the underlying energy price.
6. Rent vs Pay: The Cost Comparison
| Scenario (per day) | Pay TRX fee (burn, 100 SUN) | Rent energy (23 SUN) | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 transfer | ~$2.17 | ~$0.50 | Rent (saves ~77%) |
| 10 transfers | ~$21.70 | ~$5.00 | Rent |
| 50 transfers | ~$108.50 | ~$25.00 | Rent |
| 500 transfers | ~$1,085.00 | ~$250.00 (longer plans cheaper per unit) | Rent (scale-dependent) |
Renting beats burning at every frequency, saving about 77% per transfer at the cheapest observed quote — down from roughly 80% last week because the floor rose from 20 to 23 SUN while the burn price held. Two caveats keep this honest: the 23 SUN rate is the cheapest observed single-order quote rather than a guaranteed one, and a typical 35–38 SUN quote cuts the saving to roughly 62–65%. Longer-duration and larger-block rentals reduce per-unit cost further, so high-volume operators should model against the duration they actually need.
7. Why Energy Price Is the Key Metric
For stablecoin payments, TRON's energy price is effectively the transaction fee — the marginal cost of moving USDT on the dominant rail. This week added a wrinkle that does not change the metric but changes who feels it: Binance Wallet's USDT-fee option means a retail user can transact without ever seeing a SUN price, while the wallet operator buys the same energy underneath. The fee did not disappear; it moved up the stack and got bundled. That makes the energy floor more, not less, important — it is now the input cost to products priced in USDT — and the monitoring discipline stays the same: track the cheapest enforceable quote and its persistence, not the average and not the headline. Rental services, from individual stakers to platforms such as Tronsell, all price against the same supply and demand for staked TRX; we reference them only as market participants, never as recommendations.
