Stablecoin Payment Price Update — September 14–20, 2026
This is the weekly price edition of Stablecoin Payment Market Intelligence for September 14–20, 2026 — a week in which the energy floor gave back part of its previous surge: the cheapest single-order 1-hour quote eased from 22 SUN to 20 SUN, even as TRON absorbed another $356.0M of USDT and the chain's account base passed 404 million.
Every figure carries a source and an as-of date. USD equivalents this week are recomputed from SUN prices at the September 20 TRX close of $0.3426: 65,000 energy x SUN price / 1,000,000 = TRX cost. Two hygiene notes apply again this week — published USD columns on live price tables still imply a TRX price near $0.10, and the cheapest headline rate on third-party trackers requires an order of 3,612 transfers, not a single transfer.
1. Energy Rental Prices
| Provider / plan | Unit price (SUN) | 65k energy cost | USD equiv. (TRX $0.3426) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest 1h rental (TronRental) | 20 SUN | 1.30 TRX | ~$0.45 |
| TronBid offers (15min–1h, 65k) | 23 SUN | 1.50 TRX | ~$0.51 |
| Stronara live rate (1h) | 27.6 SUN | 1.79 TRX | ~$0.61 |
| Itrx.io (1h) | 35 SUN | 2.28 TRX | ~$0.78 |
| TronMax (1h) | 37 SUN | 2.41 TRX | ~$0.82 |
| Tronzap (1h) | 38 SUN | 2.47 TRX | ~$0.85 |
| Bulk tier (FeeSaver, 3,612-transfer / 15min order) | ~15 SUN equiv. | 0.97 TRX per transfer | ~$0.33 |
| Network burn price | 100 SUN | 6.50 TRX | ~$2.23 |
| Typical 1-day rental (65k, indicative) | ~105 SUN equiv. | 6.83 TRX | ~$2.34 |
The cheapest observed single-order quote fell from 22 SUN to 20 SUN — a 9% decline that partially reverses last week's 57% lift, and the first move in the other direction after two weeks of demand-led pricing. Mid-market 1-hour quotes held in the 35–38 SUN range (~$0.78–0.85), the network burn price remains 100 SUN (Proposal #104), and the spread between the cheapest quote and burning widened back to about 5x from 4.5x last week (TronScan.energy. A rate of 0.972 TRX per transfer is also being published as the market's cheapest headline (TronRelic), but it requires an order covering 3,612 transfers over a 15-minute rental — roughly 15 SUN equivalent at that volume, and not a price any single-transfer buyer can access. Two data-hygiene points stand: TronScan.energy's USD column still shows 1.30 TRX as ~$0.13, implying a TRX price near $0.10 against an actual close of $0.3426, and bulk rates must never be quoted as the single-transfer market rate.
2. TRX Staking Cost
| Benchmark | Value | As of | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRX price | $0.3426 (close) | Sep 20 | +1.3% w/w; range $0.3317–0.3472 |
| TRX staked | 45.7B | Q2 end | −0.9% q/q; latest available |
| Staking rate | 48.2% | Q2 end | drifting lower |
| sTRX 7-day average APY (JustLend) | 4.57% | Sep 17 | governance rewards plus energy rental income |
| TRXS ETF assets | $50.37M net assets, ≥90% staked | Sep 10 | last published figure; on Webull and SoFi since Sep 17 |
| Stake to cover one USDT transfer/day | ~65,000 TRX (~$22.3k) | reference | capital lock-up versus rent |
At $0.3426, covering one USDT transfer per day by staking ties up roughly 65,000 TRX — about $22.3k of capital — against $0.45 for a rented transfer at the cheapest quote. The institutional side of the same market widened this week rather than deepened: TRXS added Webull and SoFi as distribution channels and Tron Inc. bought 148,392 TRX at an average of $0.3369, but no updated fund net-asset figure was published, so the flow impact of the new channels is not yet measurable. The structural argument from last week still stands — a wrapper that stakes at least 90% of inflows adds an institutional accumulator on the same side of the market as energy suppliers, which argues for softer quotes over time, even as corridor demand pulls the other way.
3. Per-Chain USDT Transfer Cost
| Chain | Typical cost per USDT transfer | Note |
|---|---|---|
| TRON (rented energy, cheapest 20 SUN) | ~$0.45 | cheapest 1h quote observed this week |
| TRON (rented energy, typical) | ~$0.78–0.85 | 35–38 SUN 1h quotes |
| TRON (bulk order, ~15 SUN equiv.) | ~$0.33 | 3,612-transfer order size |
| TRON (burning TRX, 65k) | ~$2.23 | existing-holder recipient |
| TRON (burning TRX, 131k) | ~$4.49 | new-holder recipient; ~2x |
| Ethereum (ERC-20) | $1–$10+ | gas-dependent |
| Solana | <$0.10 | low-cost rail |
| BNB Chain (BEP-20) | <$0.10 | cheap EVM rail |
TRON's cheapest rented cost moved from $0.49 to $0.45 this week, trimming roughly 8% off the previous week's spike. The honest comparison remains range-based: a typical 1-hour quote still costs $0.78–0.85 against Ethereum's $1–$10+ range, and the burn path is $2.23. TRON brackets the sub-ten-cent rails from above rather than beating them outright, and competes on acceptance, liquidity depth and tooling rather than on the absolute floor price.
4. Energy Demand & Supply
Demand-side data strengthened again but the price fell, which is the week's most informative signal. TRON absorbed $356.0M of new USDT in seven days, taking its balance to $92.581B on the DeFiLlama basis, accounts passed 404 million, and one integration added new addressable activity: Ducat's wUNIT brings Bitcoin-backed credit into USDT settlement flows. Supply-side capacity did not visibly expand — no new large rental platform launched inside the window — and the TRXS inflows stake into validation rather than listing energy for sale. The result is that the floor eased 9% even as demand indicators rose, which is what a market normalising after a spike looks like rather than a market turning. One week of easing after one week of a 57% lift leaves the floor exactly where it was two weeks ago, which is the honest way to read it.
5. Market Price Changes
- Energy rental: cheapest 1-hour quote 22 SUN → 20 SUN (~$0.49 → ~$0.45 at respective TRX closes); typical quotes steady at 35–38 SUN.
- TRX: $0.3426 at the September 20 close, +1.3% over seven days (range $0.3317–0.3472).
- TRXS: $25.03 on September 18 (weekly range $24.59–25.26); added to Webull and SoFi on September 17.
- Broader market: BTC +4.8% on the week to close near $80,400–80,600 after a low near $75,000 on September 15; ETH roughly +2% near $2,570; SOL +8%; Zcash +32% and Hyperliquid +17%.
- Fees: energy unit price remains 100 SUN (Proposal #104); average TRON transaction cost $0.65 in Q2 2026.
6. Rent vs Pay: The Cost Comparison
| Scenario (per day) | Pay TRX fee (burn, 100 SUN) | Rent energy (20 SUN) | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 transfer | ~$2.23 | ~$0.45 | Rent (saves ~80%) |
| 10 transfers | ~$22.30 | ~$4.50 | Rent |
| 50 transfers | ~$111.50 | ~$22.50 | Rent |
| 500 transfers | ~$1,115.00 | ~$225.00 (longer plans cheaper per unit) | Rent (scale-dependent) |
Renting beats burning at every frequency, saving about 80% per transfer at the cheapest observed quote — up from 78% last week because the floor fell, not because burning got cheaper. Two caveats keep this honest: the 20 SUN rate is the cheapest observed single-order quote rather than a guaranteed one, and a typical 35–38 SUN quote cuts the saving to roughly 62–65%. The bulk tier near 15 SUN equivalent would raise the saving to about 85%, but it requires a 3,612-transfer order and should not be modelled as an available rate for occasional senders. Longer-duration and larger-block rentals reduce per-unit cost further, so high-volume operators should model against the duration they actually need.
7. Why Energy Price Is the Key Metric
For stablecoin payments, TRON's energy price is effectively the transaction fee — the marginal cost of moving USDT on the dominant rail. This week is the cleanest illustration so far of how the floor responds: a 57% demand-led spike in the first week of September, followed by a 9% give-back in the second, leaving the floor where it stood two weeks ago. That two-way movement is what a functioning market looks like, and it is why the monitoring discipline stays the same — track the cheapest enforceable quote and its persistence, not the average and not the headline. Rental services, from individual stakers to platforms such as Tronsell, all price against the same supply and demand for staked TRX; we reference them only as market participants, never as recommendations.
