Stablecoin Payment Price Update — October 5–11, 2026
This is the weekly price edition of Stablecoin Payment Market Intelligence for October 5–11, 2026 — a week in which the low end of the energy market broke below the level that had held for three weeks, TRX outperformed a falling market, and the honest answer to 'what does a transfer cost' became a range rather than a number.
Every figure carries a source and an as-of date. USD equivalents are recomputed from SUN prices at the October 11 TRX close of $0.3304: 65,000 energy x SUN price / 1,000,000 = TRX cost. The standing hygiene note applies — published USD columns on live comparison tables still imply a TRX price near $0.10, and every USD cell below is recomputed rather than copied.
1. Energy Rental Prices
| Provider / plan | Unit price (SUN) | 65k energy cost | USD equiv. (TRX $0.3304) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest 1h rental (TronRental) | 17 SUN | 1.11 TRX | ~$0.37 |
| CatFee 1h orders (settled Oct 6) | 19 SUN | 1.235 TRX | ~$0.41 |
| TronBid (1h, comparison table) | 19–21 SUN | 1.24–1.37 TRX | ~$0.41–0.45 |
| TronBid order book, lowest sell offer (Oct 10) | 25 SUN | 1.63 TRX | ~$0.54 |
| Itrx.io / TronMax / Tronzap (1h) | 35–38 SUN | 2.28–2.47 TRX | ~$0.75–0.82 |
| Network burn price | 100 SUN | 6.50 TRX | ~$2.15 |
| Network burn, new-holder recipient (131k) | 100 SUN | 13.10 TRX | ~$4.33 |
The three-week floor at 23 SUN broke. Comparison-site quotes put the cheapest one-hour single-transfer price at 17–19 SUN, and CatFee's own transaction log shows settled orders of 65,000 energy at 19 SUN (1.235 TRX) on October 6 — a filled price rather than a listed one, which is the stronger evidence of the two. The working market did not follow as far: TronBid's October 10 snapshot showed a lowest sell offer of 25 SUN and a 24-hour volume-weighted average of 29.182 SUN, and TronRelic's tracked single-transfer quotes ran 1.80–3.21 TRX (about 28–49 SUN). The two-tier structure is the honest description — a low single-provider tier at 17–19 SUN, and a book at 25–29 SUN — and it matters because a listed quote is not a guaranteed fill. TronScan.energy's USD column still converts 1.11 TRX to roughly $0.11, implying a TRX price near $0.10 against an actual close of $0.3304; recompute, never copy.
2. TRX Staking Cost
| Benchmark | Value | As of | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRX price | $0.3304 (close) | Oct 11 | −1.6% w/w; range $0.3300–0.3372 (Gate.io); OKX close $0.3306 |
| TRX staked | 45.7B | Q2 end | background — latest published; Q3 report still outstanding |
| Tron Inc. treasury | >717.6M TRX | Oct 7 | purchases Oct 5 (147,910 @ $0.3380) and Oct 7 (147,789 @ $0.3383); company-reported |
| TRXS ETF net assets | ~$50.2M | Oct 2 | background — shares outstanding flat at 2.03 million since September 15 |
| Stake to cover one USDT transfer/day | ~65,000 TRX (~$21.5k) | reference | conservative reference; actual lock-up varies with network stake |
At $0.3304, covering one transfer a day with your own stake means locking about $21.5k, against $0.37–0.54 for a rented transfer — a ratio of 40,000:1 or higher that is why renting dominates for anyone who is not already holding the capital. The staking route's case does not rest on price; it rests on wanting the TRX exposure anyway. Meanwhile the accumulation bid stayed small and price-insensitive: two purchases totalling 295,699 TRX, and an ETF whose share count has not moved since mid-September.
3. Per-Chain USDT Transfer Cost
| Chain | Typical cost per USDT transfer | Note |
|---|---|---|
| TRON (rented energy, cheapest 1h) | ~$0.37–0.41 | 17–19 SUN, including settled orders |
| TRON (rented energy, P2P book) | ~$0.54–0.63 | 25–29 SUN |
| TRON (rented energy, typical mid-market) | ~$0.75–0.82 | 35–38 SUN 1h quotes |
| TRON (burning TRX, 65k) | ~$2.15 | existing-holder recipient |
| TRON (burning TRX, 131k) | ~$4.33 | new-holder recipient; ~2x |
| Ethereum (ERC-20) | $0.02–$0.8 (measured) | Sep 2026 medians; volatile — older guides cite $1–$10+ |
| Solana | <$0.10 | low-cost rail |
| BNB Chain (BEP-20) | <$0.10 | cheap EVM rail |
TRON's costs barely moved on the token side — TRX fell 1.6%, which lowers every dollar figure by under a cent — but the internal spread widened, because the cheapest settled quote fell while the burn price did not. The cross-chain read is unchanged and remains overlap-based: TRON's rented path sits alongside Ethereum's measured medians rather than decisively below them, and the chain's durable advantage is that its price is a published market rate rather than a function of another network's congestion.
4. Energy Demand & Supply
Demand indicators were steady at high levels: a 30-day average of 4.41 million daily active accounts, more than 407 million cumulative accounts, GasFree closing September at $14.87B of transfer volume with 479,000-plus users, and merchant distribution widening through CoinsBee, Zebec and WalletConnect Pay. Supply-side, the picture is the more interesting one: the low end of the quote stack fell to 17–19 SUN while the working P2P book stayed at 25 SUN and above, and mid-market quotes held at 35–38 SUN. A widening gap between the cheapest listing and the volume-weighted book is what a market looks like when one participant is buying share rather than when supply has genuinely loosened — so watch whether the low tier persists into next week, and whether it drags the book with it.
5. Market Price Changes
- Energy rental: cheapest one-hour quote fell from 23 SUN to 17–19 SUN (~$0.37–0.41); the working P2P book held at 25 SUN and above; mid-market quotes steady at 35–38 SUN.
- TRX: $0.3304 at the October 11 close, −1.6% over seven days (range $0.3300–$0.3372, Gate.io) — against bitcoin −2.1% and altcoins down 6–8% on the same week.
- Broader market: ether fell 6.8% to $2,504 and Solana 8.1% to $109.91, both printing weekly lows on Thursday October 8; spot bitcoin ETFs shed $729M across October 7–8; sentiment ended the week in 'greed' at 56–61 depending on tracker, down from 71 at the October 7 cut.
- Fees: energy unit burn price remains 100 SUN; average TRON transaction cost was $0.65 in Q2 2026 (Messari, background).
- Policy: the September FOMC minutes (October 7) showed most participants favouring a further hike before year-end; ESMA gave EU firms until about January 8, 2027 to unwind non-compliant stablecoin exposure.
6. Rent vs Pay: The Cost Comparison
| Scenario (per day) | Pay TRX fee (burn, 100 SUN) | Rent energy (19 SUN) | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 transfer | ~$2.15 | ~$0.41 | Rent (saves ~81%) |
| 10 transfers | ~$21.50 | ~$4.10 | Rent |
| 50 transfers | ~$107.50 | ~$20.50 | Rent |
| 500 transfers | ~$1,075.00 | ~$205.00 (longer plans cheaper per unit) | Rent (scale-dependent) |
Renting beats burning at every frequency, and the saving widened this week to about 81% at the 19 SUN settled level — roughly 83% at the 17 SUN listing — because the burn price held at 100 SUN while the low end of the rental market fell. Three caveats keep it honest. First, the cheapest quote is a single provider's price and a listing is not a fill; at the working book's 25–29 SUN the saving is 71–75%, and at a typical mid-market 35–38 SUN it is around 62–65%. Second, the burn comparison assumes a recipient who already holds USDT; a first-time recipient needs 131,000 energy, which doubles the burn cost to $4.33 while a rental's 131k orders are priced only modestly above the 65k ones. Third, the low tier may not last. Price against the tenor you actually need, and re-check before committing.
7. Why Energy Price Is the Key Metric
For stablecoin payments, TRON's energy price is the transaction fee — the marginal cost of moving USDT on the chain that carries the largest share of it. This week's market made that point in an unusually direct way: the cheapest quote fell about 26% while the burn price stayed fixed, so the gap that makes rental worth doing widened on the supply side rather than the demand side. That is also why the two-tier structure matters more than any single number — a fee that a payment product can rely on is a book price, not a headline. And the abstraction keeps rising: with USDT-denominated fee payment in Binance Wallet and gasless transfer services handling $14.87B in a month, retail users increasingly never see a SUN price at all, while the operator underneath buys the same energy. Rental services, from individual stakers to platforms such as Tronsell, all price against the same supply and demand for staked TRX; we reference them only as market participants, never as recommendations.
