This is the weekly price edition of Stablecoin Payment Market Intelligence for August 31–September 6, 2026 — a week in which record usage (401M accounts, 3.88M daily active addresses, $903.4M of new stablecoin supply) coincided with lower, not higher, energy quotes.

Every figure carries a source and an as-of date. USD equivalents this week are recomputed from SUN prices at the September 3 TRX spot of $0.3316: 65,000 energy x SUN price / 1,000,000 = TRX cost. Several public price tables publish USD conversions based on materially older TRX prices, so we compute our own rather than copy theirs.

1. Energy Rental Prices

Provider / planUnit price (SUN)65k energy costUSD equiv. (TRX $0.3316)
Cheapest 1h rental (TronRental)14 SUN0.91 TRX~$0.30
GetBlock 1h, 131k energy22 SUN1.43 TRX (65k basis)~$0.47
TronBid 30-day package rate28 SUN1.82 TRX~$0.60
Itrx.io / TronBid (1h)35–36 SUN2.28–2.34 TRX~$0.75–0.78
TronMax / Tronzap (1h)37–38 SUN2.41–2.47 TRX~$0.80–0.82
Typical 1-day rental (65k)~105 SUN equiv.6.83 TRX~$2.26

The cheapest observed 1-hour quote eased from 18 SUN to 14 SUN this week, taking a rented USDT transfer to roughly $0.30 at current spot. Typical 1-hour quotes held in the 35–38 SUN range (~$0.75–0.82), and the market-wide delegation range remained 20–75 SUN per unit against a network burn price of 100 SUN (TronScan.energy, GetBlock). The spread between the cheapest quote and the burn price is now about 7x.

2. TRX Staking Cost

Stake to cover one USDT transfer/day~65,000 TRX (~$21.6k)referencecapital lock-up vs rent

At $0.3316, covering one USDT transfer per day by staking ties up roughly 65,000 TRX — about $21.6k of capital — versus $0.30 for a rented transfer. That gap is the entire economic case for rental, and it widened slightly this week as TRX softened while quotes eased.

3. Per-Chain USDT Transfer Cost

ChainTypical cost per USDT transferNote
TRON (rented energy, cheapest 14 SUN)~$0.30cheapest 1h quote observed this week
TRON (rented energy, typical)~$0.75–0.8235–38 SUN 1h quotes
TRON (burning TRX, 65k)~$2.16existing-holder recipient
TRON (burning TRX, 131k)~$4.34new-holder recipient; ~2x
Ethereum (ERC-20)$1–$10+gas-dependent
Solana<$0.10low-cost rail
BNB Chain (BEP-20)<$0.10cheap EVM rail

TRON's rented-transfer cost remains competitive with the sub-ten-cent EVM and Solana rails at the cheap end of the quote range, and far below Ethereum. The honest comparison is range-based: TRON costs $0.30 at the cheapest quote and $0.82 at a typical one, which brackets rather than beats the low-fee alternatives.

4. Energy Demand & Supply

Demand drivers all strengthened: accounts passed 401M, daily active addresses hit 3.88M (nearly 2x BSC), stablecoin supply on TRON grew $903.4M in seven days, and GasFree had abstracted fees for 7.70M transactions. Supply-side capacity grew too, and faster — JustLend DAO's Energy Rental passed 80,000 users, its Buy Energy function (launched August) claims up to 64% savings versus burning, and GasFree removed the need to hold TRX altogether. The result is visible in the price: quotes eased even as usage set records.

5. Market Price Changes

6. Rent vs Pay: The Cost Comparison

Pay-fee cost = TRX fee per transfer x transfers Rent cost = energy rental (per transfer) x transfers Break-even: renting wins whenever the rental rate is below the burn price of 100 SUN Current: 14 SUN rental vs 100 SUN burn = 86% saving per transfer
Scenario (per day)Pay TRX fee (burn, 100 SUN)Rent energy (14 SUN)Winner
1 transfer~$2.16~$0.30Rent (saves ~86%)
10 transfers~$21.60~$3.02Rent
50 transfers~$108.00~$15.09Rent
500 transfers~$1,080.00~$150.90 (1-day plans cheaper per unit)Rent (scale-dependent)

Renting beats burning at every frequency, saving about 86% per transfer at the cheapest observed quote. Two caveats keep this honest: the 14 SUN rate is the cheapest observed quote, not a guaranteed one, and a typical 35–38 SUN quote cuts the saving to roughly 62–65%. Longer-duration and larger-block rentals reduce per-unit cost further, so high-volume operators should model against the duration they actually need.

7. Why Energy Price Is the Key Metric

For stablecoin payments, TRON's energy price is effectively the transaction fee — the marginal cost of moving USDT on the dominant rail. This week demonstrated why it deserves direct monitoring rather than inference: usage set records across accounts, supply and daily actives, and the price still fell. Rental services, from individual stakers to platforms such as Tronsell, all price against the same supply and demand for staked TRX — we reference them only as market participants, never as recommendations.
